NCRコーポレーションは、世界最大の小売業、ウォルマート社の米国内1,200以上の拠点に、NCRのセルフレジNCR SelfServ Checkoutを2013年中に10,000台インストールすると発表しました。なお受注金額などの情報は公表しておりません。
ウォルマートでは毎週数100万もの商品がNCRのセルフレジによって購入されています。セルフサービスによるチェックアウトという選択肢の拡大が、買い物客の顧客満足度を向上させ、顧客サービス全体の向上に寄与しています。
米国ウォルマート社イノベーション担当シニアバイスプレジデントのJeff McAllister氏は、次のように述べています。「我々の顧客の購買スタイルは変化してきています。ウォルマートはこうした顧客のニーズの変化に応えるためにも、セルフレジのような革新的な技術を利用していきます。そして、さまざまなチェックアウトの選択肢を提供することによって、顧客が望む、スピーディ、簡単、便利な買い物体験を実現することが、我々ウォルマートにとっても特別な強みとなります。」
NCRは今後も操作画面のデザイン、機器構成、レイアウトなど使いやすいセルフレジの開発に力を入れてまいります。またセルフレジの利用を高めるために、引き続きウォルマートやサムズクラブへのサービスプログラムや保守サポートを提供してまいります。
NCRの調査によると、セルフレジを利用する64％、有人レジを利用する70％の買い物客がセルフレジによるチェックアウトの選択肢を提供する店舗の方が、より良い顧客サービスを提供していると回答しています。また、セルフレジを利用する70％が他のお店でもウォルマートのようなセルフレジを利用したいとし、有人レジを利用する半数が他の小売店にもウォルマートのようなセルフレジの導入が望ましいとしています。
