Cheddar’s Casual Café to Deploy NCR Aloha Solutions at Restaurants Nationwide
Solution will help leading restaurant operator optimize labor and payroll management
DULUTH, Ga., January 24, 2013 – NCR Corporation (NYSE: NCR) today announced that Cheddar’s Casual Café, a nationwide casual dining chain known for its affordable, handmade quality food, is deploying NCR Aloha restaurant technology at existing and new company restaurants in 2013. The company, which was the only restaurant in a June 2012 Consumer Reports survey of leading chains to receive top marks for value, will use NCR Aloha technology to improve its ability to track and control labor, streamline the on-boarding of new hires and enhance its loss prevention program, allowing Cheddar’s staff to focus on exceptional guest experiences.
Cheddar’s selected NCR because of its ability to deliver a comprehensive, leading-edge enterprise restaurant technology as well as professional services and learning management solutions.
Cheddar’s is deploying a complete solution that includes point-of-sale software, point-of-sale terminals with biometric readers to speed service and increase controls, labor management tools to improve employee scheduling and payment, and an employee theft deterrence application at all of its restaurants. The company is also leveraging NCR’s site and systems management applications to manage its IT platform remotely, increasing security and reliability while rolling out important changes in real-time, such as pricing or system updates. NCR will provide professional services, installing the solution at each restaurant and training the staff. New hires will also have access to an online education portal to learn how to use NCR technology.
“Our goal is to deliver fresh, quality food to our guests in an upscale comfortable atmosphere at a fair price,” says Don Breen, chief financial officer, Cheddar’s Casual Café. “Using NCR Aloha solutions, we’ll be able to track, measure and evaluate labor to make fast real-time decisions, reducing operating costs and freeing up our staff to focus on the satisfaction of our guests.”
“As labor costs rise, chain restaurant operators are looking for ways to modify and restructure menus, implement labor controls and reduce waste,” says Kim Eaton, vice president, NCR Hospitality. “Our solutions provide a more robust technology foundation to support Cheddar’s strategic expansion plans, while helping them proactively manage their costs and deliver great service.”
About Cheddar’s Casual Café
Irving, TX-based Cheddar’s Casual Café was founded in 1979 as an inviting neighborhood restaurant featuring handmade quality food offered at a reasonable price. With that recipe, the Brand has grown to 130 company-owned and franchise locations in 23 states. Cheddar’s differentiated position combines scratch-based, handmade quality food, genuine, caring service in an atmosphere that features polished finishes like copper awnings, gas lamps, reclaimed old-Chicago brick, hardwoods, granite countertops and a 300 gallon aquarium. By offering this rich experience at a price that is significantly below competitors, Cheddar’s guests receive superior value and often feel reverse sticker shock – wondering how the prices can be so modest for what they experience. In 2012, Zagat ranked Cheddar’s the nation’s No.1 full-service restaurant chain as well as No. 1 in American Cuisine, the Top Rated Food and Top rated Décor and Facilities. Consumer Reports named Cheddar's #1 in the Pub Style or Grill Category in its two restaurant surveys in 2009 and 2012. The company also received the top ranking in Value in Nation’s Restaurant News/WD Partners’ Consumer Picks Edition in 2011 and 2012.
